Sign smasher turns himself in
A man has claimed responsibility for destroying People Of Douglas signage urging residents to vote no to de-amalgamation.
The man spoke with The Newsport yesterday afternoon and said he had called Mossman Police Station after being told by a friend footage of his actions was caught on video and published on The Newsport.
He also wrote a comment on the article 'Caught on camera' (Monday 18 February 2013) explaining his actions.
'Hi to newsport and readers, with regards to this, well what can I say. The signs finally got to me. Every time I drive in and every time I drive out, every time I open the paper. Say yes or say no... Your choice.
"But we are not idiots that need a sign( or thirty) to tell me what to do. I didn't steal them but i did pull these two down( twice) as they were on public land that shouldn't be subject to this sort of visual vandalism. Not to mention the other twenty or so signs on my way to work.
"And i couldn't blame anyone else for pulling the other many many many signs down that are stinking up our community. The enormous trailer sign was the straw. Auurgh!!!!
"Do us all a favour and spend you time researching the facts to get the best for Douglas rather than trying to brainwash us all with hollow propaganda!!!
"Peace out and choose wisely."
Mossman and Port Douglas are investigating the authenticity of the admission.
