Cafe given all clear

A compromise has been reached between the State Government, Council, and local business owner Wayne Stapleton which will allow Mr Stapleton to continue to offer outdoor dining at his popular Under Wraps cafe in Macrossan Street.

In June this year, Mr Stapleton received a letter ordering him to remove much of his outdoor dining facilities citing pedestrian safety as the key concern.

Since then, Mr Stapleton has met with Council's Paul Hoye on three separate occasions in a bid to reverse the decision which he claimed would cost the cafe 50 per cent of its trade.

A decision to grant a permit for the outdoor area was approved after six weeks, not the six to twelve months originally suggested.

Mr Stapleton has made minor changes to ensure vehicles have an unobstructed view as they approach the pedestrian crossing opposite Under Wraps, and thanked Mr Hoye for his part in the discussions.

"They're happy with the changes we've made and are happy to give us our permit back," Mr Stapleton said.

"I'm losing a couple of tables, but I'd rather lose two tables than them all," he said.
