Shooters warm-up for competition
Mossman and District Target Shooting Weekly 600 Metre Double Report

Saturday was truly a pre-comp comp, with four visitors from Ravenshoe coming early to get their eye in on the Mossman range before the big competition on Sunday.
Paul Padgett was our first shooter competing in benchrest F Class(Scope and mechanical rest).Paul had a bit of trouble finding the centre with a first round score of 28. Mick Wood was next in the benchrest F Class match, Mick had a very good first round with a score of 59/3 from a possible 60. Murray Wilson was next in the benchrest F Class, Murray had a fairly good round with 53 from 60. Liz Wilson was next to shoulder her rifle in the F Class comp, Liz shot all over the target to score 51/1. Norbert Schmidt was the last competitor in the F Class competition. Norbert was having trouble with the heavy vigorous mirage. Norbert scored 55/3 from a possible 60 in the ten shot match.
Neil Attwood was the first shooter down competing in the Full Bore (308 with peep sights and manual support) match. Neil shot an average round to score 43/1 from a possible 50 in the ten shot match. Ben Purvis was next in the Full Bore comp, Ben had a really hard time finding the centre with a final score of 32. Malcolm McKellar was next in the Full Bore comp, Mal dropped one shot to score 49/2 from 50.
Paul Padgett was back for his second 600 metre 11 shot match, Paul shot a much better round with 53 from a possible 66. Mick Wood was back and shot a mediocre second range with 55 from 66. Murray Wilson was back in his chair to shoot marginally better with 57 from a possible 66. Liz Wilson was back on the mat to shoot a pretty average score of 52. Norbert Schmidt was last in the F Class match. Norbert shot fairly average also to produce 60/3. Jack Murten from Cairns had a few shots using Murray's rifle and ended with 30 from 36.
Neil Attwood was back for his second 600 metre eleven shot match, Neil shot much better with a score of 51/1 from a possible 55. Ben Purvis was on the mat next behind his 308, Ben shot a much better round of 45/1 from 55. Malcolm McKellar was on the mound next, Mal was having trouble with the savage mirage to give him a second range score of 52/5.
A good day was had by all with Malcolm McKellar taking honours in the Full Bore comp on 101/7 from 105. followed by Neil Attwood on 94/2 and Ben Purvis on 77/1. Norbert Schmidt took honours in the F Class comp on 115/6 from a possible 126 narrowly followed by Mick Wood on 114/3 with Murray Wilson in third place on 110 then Liz Wilson 103/1 and Paul Padgett on 81.
A big thank you to the markers and scorers for a good day. We shoot every Saturday at 1:30pm at the range, signposted half way between Mossman and Port Douglas on the Cook Highway.
The Mossman and District Rifle Club held it's annual prize shoot at the range last Sunday and it was an overwhelming success in regards to the roll up of competitors.
