Ivanhoes solidified fifth place with a 62-6 thrashing of Mossman-Port Douglas at Mossman Showground.

Knights hooker Taiby Doolah amassed a personal tally of 26 points (two tries, nine goals), while Sam Lynch and Todd Matthews also shone for the visitors.

Reigning premiers Brothers made it four games unbeaten in the Bendigo Bank CDRL A Grade competition with a hard-fought 26-14 win over Yarrabah Seahawks at Jilara Oval on Sunday.

The Brethren were reduced to 12 men in the second half when forward Luke Badge was sent off, with the scores delicately locked at 14-14.

But the visitors showed their class to surge to victory, and provide another ominous warning to their premiership rivals, now lurking in fourth position on the ladder.

“Yarrabah are very strong on their home patch and always seem to raise their game for us, so to beat them with 12 men was very pleasing,” said Brothers coach Robbie Swain.

“We showed how we can play with our backs against the wall, and I was particularly happy with our defence.

“Yarrabah really should be higher on the ladder, and they’ll continue to be a hard team to beat if they play like that every week.

“I’m not happy that we’re in fourth spot, I’d rather be at the top of the ladder, but I can take some comfort in the way we’re winning.”

Swain believes that a more settled squad is the secret behind his team’s turnaround from an inconsistent start to the year.

“We’ve had the same squad now for a few games, and the same blokes at training, so that’s helped us to get our combinations working on the left and right fringes,” he said.

“I’ve said all along that I want selection headaches, and finally that’s starting to happen.

“I’ve still got a lot of players to come back, and hopefully we’ll be hitting our straps come September time.”

Brothers now wait until 23 June to play their next game, and Swain believes the bye is at the right time, with star back Nathan Kepa (broken hand) still two weeks away from playing.

Southern Suburbs continue to show their title credentials as they beat derby rivals Edmonton 38-10 at Alley Park on Saturday night to maintain top spot on the ladder.

Suburbs clinched the win in the first half as they ran in five tries to surge 28-0 in front, Thomas Ketchell, Aidan Day, Mick Rayment, Eddie Prior and Ali Henley all crossing.

High-fliers Kangaroos and Mareeba dished up a points extravaganza at Vico Oval yesterday (Sunday) as Roos won their top-of-the-table clash 56-40.

An amazing 18 tries were scored during the game, with Roos crucially grabbing 11 of them to join leaders Suburbs on 19 competition points. Mareeba remain in third on the ladder.

Innisfail hold bragging rights once again on the Cassowary Coast after beating rivals Tully Tigers 34-14 at Callendar Park.

The Leprechauns moved into sixth spot on the ladder and above Tully with their third win in a row. Matt Healey (2), Luke Romano, Tim Savage, Filo Sofa and Jarred Laza grabbed the hosts’ tries.

Bottom-of-the-table Atherton Roosters had a bye.
