SENIORS

Division 1: Crocs 2 def. RingIns 53-13, Cougars def. Crocs 1 46-32

The RingIns were up against it from the first whistle, with a player down in their match-up against Crocs 2. The Crocs made the most of their extra girlpower, and it showed on the scoreboard; a 38-goal thumping.  It's the Crocs' first win for the season, but no doubt a big motivator for the girls to put in a repeat performance this weekend.

Crocs 2 Best & Fairest: Miranda Clarke, Kirsty McKay

For Crocs 1, their highly anticipated match-up against last year's winner, the Cougars, didn't go to plan. Despite missing some key player, the Crocs were determined to keep hustling, but it wasn't enough to overturn the score. The Cougars claimed the win by 14 goals.

Crocs 1 Best & Fairest: Simone Tesch, Michelle Teasdale

Division 2: Dynamite def. Ramada 28-21, Young Jets def. Crocs 3 58-17

Ramada put up a fierce fight against Dynamite, in a highly physical game. Though both teams fought to win, Dynamite's defence was too strong, beating Ramada by 7 goals.

Best & Fairest: Bronte Jones, Anna Cribb

Crocs 3 had no chance against the almighty Young Jets, who stormed home with a 41-goal victory.

Crocs 3 Best & Fairest: Nikia Duncan, Jen Elphinstone

Division 3: 14 Reps def. Breakers 37-3

14 Reps had an easy win over the Breakers, giving the latter next to no time in their goal circle.

JUNIORS

Douglas netballers delivered a mixed bag of result last weekend, with the U10 Beach Babes, U12 Diamonds, U13 Pythons, and the 14-16 Strikers recording Week 5 wins.
 
U10 Babes def, Stars 7-1

The Young Stars initially lined up a player down, but recruited youngster Ella Cairns to fill the gap against the Beach Babes. The Babes were consistent all over the court, with solid performances from players in attack and defence, with defenders constantly denying frustrated Stars opportunities in the goal circle.

Perhaps spurred on by a motivating half-time pep talk, the Stars took to the court in the third quarter with renewed spirit, controlling the play and dominating in attack, with six attempts at goal to the Babes’ one. But despite their persistence, the Stars weren’t able to convert plays to goals, and the Babes claimed a six-goal victory at the final whistle.

Best players: Kacy Baxter, Jasmine Dodds and Michaelyn Parkes.

U12 Diamonds def. Saints 14-3

The Diamonds and the Saints took to Court 1 in a hotly anticipated match, with both teams boasting an undefeated season. The first quarter was evenly matched, with the Diamonds scoring two goals to the Saints one. The Diamonds took control in the second quarter though, making use of advantages in age and experience. Kyah Francis was a standout, determined to attack the ball and win rebounds.

Diamond Mia Devine proved valuable as Centre, making numerous intercepts to reverse the play, and assisting teammates with several unanswered goals. The Saints rallied in the third, with team spirit spurring the girls on to score, while limiting the Diamonds chances at goal. The Saints defence suffered a blow when Keely Harold came off injured, and the Diamonds took advantage in their goal circle.

Kate Padovan’s outstanding versatility around the court, as Wing Attack, Centre and Goal Defence, earned her Best and Fairest. Devine claimed the same for the Diamonds, for her roles in Centre and Goal Defence. Players Choice was shared between Centre Stella Burnett for the Saints, who also demonstrated skills in goal, and Paige Bellero, as valuable in Wing Attack and Wing Defence as she was in Centre.
 
U13 Pythons def. Extreme 6-2

Despite fielding an incomplete team, the Pythons were unbeatable against the Extreme on Court 3. The Extreme seemed to make the most of their player advantage with plenty of opportunity in goal, but the Pythons defence refused to concede. The Extreme put in an impressive second half, but couldn’t get in front by the final whistle.
 
Best players: Hannah Durie, Charlotte Dowling, Jenna Kerswell and Allie Seibel. 

14-16 Young Guns 1 def Young Guns 2 20-9, Strikers def. Hot Shots 17-3

The rival Young Guns seemed an even match up on Court 1, with just one goal separating the teams at the end of the first quarter. Young Guns 1 stepped up in the second, shooting nine goals to the opposition’s single, though the Young Guns 2 refused to quit, with Jade Tate and Rani-Eve Webber standouts for their 2 team. Ella Dodds continued her fantastic form for Young Guns 1. The game continued at a fast-pace to the end, though Young Guns 1 ran away with the match with a 19 goal victory.

The Hot Shots welcomed Lily Davies back to Douglas netball in the Court 3 game against the Strikers. The Strikers controlled the game from the first siren, and despite the Hot Shots putting up a solid circle defence and forcing Strikers mistakes, the Hot Shots weren’t able to get enough of the ball in their scoring circle.

Best players: Madison Malone, Tyler Mous, Georgia Duncan and Molly Lester.
