Douglas Junior Netball Round up
The Douglas Junior Netball competition started this week with the 10/Under competition on Court 1, The Beach Babes playing Michelle Teasdale's learner team.
Michelle's team have completed 7 weeks of their Net Set Go program and were ready to take the court against the Babes. The new players put in a great performance showing their newly learned skills scoring a goal against their more experienced opposition.
Best players Evie Cotton, Chelsea McKay, Andy Heidke and Courtney Geddes.
The Young Stars and Alison's girls trained for half an hour then took the court both teams competed well, with Alison's team showing they are ready to play netball, both sides had a great time and enjoyed their afternoon of netball.
The competition hotted up with the Diamonds playing Extreme, although the Diamonds came out on top the Extreme team played a great game. Both teams have newcomers who seem to be settling in well.
Best & fairest went to Marina Prince and Kyah Francis and player's choice Mikaela Fischer and Raine Ward.
The Pythons played the Saints, the Saints in great form started strongly with a 4 to nil first half the Pythons fought back in the 3rd quarter shooting 2 nil but could not keep it going for a win. Final score Saints 5 def. Pythons 2.
Best players Jay Heidke, Tayhla Cadiente, Jaime Thurtell and Koreena Minniecon.
The Young Guns 1 team played the Strikers in the 14-16 competition, the Young Guns side very depleted due to illness thanks to Kyah Francis and Keely Harold for playing up from 12s.
They struggled to score against the in form Strikers, the second half proved to be a better combination with the Young Guns scoring 6 goals compared to just 1 in the first, but not enough to make an impression on the experienced Strikers score board.
Final score Strikers 20 def. Young guns 1 - 7, best players Madison Malone, Tiah McLean, Samaria Denman and Sophie May.
The Hot Shots played Young guns 2 in a well contested close game, both teams were evenly matched the Hot shots were 6 goals to 5 by half time and looked to take the game as they were playing some very good team netball. The Young Guns settled into their game and eventually got away with the win by 2 points.
Final score 15-13, best players Jade Tate, Daisy Hawkes, Shania Jacobsen and Molly Lester.
