Junior Sharks RL weekend round up

The mighty U/6 Sharkies took on the Edmonton Storm last Saturday at the Mossman Showgrounds and again put on a great display of footy for the home crowd.

Ryder Smith and Caleb Uerata showed great improvement in their game as a result of trying hard at training.  Kaiden Sands ran the ball hard along with Zane Port, and EJ Bowen again showed his classy skills scoring some great tries.

Man of the match went to Zavan Salam for his determined effort in both attack and defence.

The U/7 Sharkies played their best game of the season so far with a good win over the Edmonton Storm last Saturday at Coronation Park.  After a good week at training the young Sharks put in a terrific team effort to upset the Storm six tries to three in a deserving win.

Hallie Jenkins scored two tries with her determined charges up field, while Azaya Tayley, Saxon and Fletch also made some great runs.  Couper Smith and Blaze Wilson again showed great improvement in their games trying their hardest all day.

Man of the  match went to Garence Hinton for an awesome effort scoring a long range try and putting in a fantastic defensive effort which had the crowd cheering.

The U/8's played a tough game against Edmonton Storm this week at home.  Even though the boys had a lot of ball possession they struggled to make the try scoring tackles to stop Edmonton crossing the line.

The final score was 24 - 20 against the Sharkies.  Try scorers on the day were Wyatt Laurigan, David Neller (3) and Jack Hatfield.

Man of the match was awarded to Daniel Johnson for a solid game in attack and defence.  Coach's award went to Wyatt Laurigan for always paying attention at training and being respectful to his coaches.  Good on you boys for trying your best!

Petrina would also like to THANK the parents for their effort with washing jerseys every week and THANK YOU to Mrs Hatfield for doing the stats. A BIG Thank you to Fatman & Matty Hatfield for taking over training the U8 while I wasn't present for the week.  U8 boys made me so proud they all played excellent football on the weekend and showed excellent sportsmanship. Congratulations U8 your my dream team.

The Under 9s had a pearler of a game on the main field, and enjoyed the chance to use the dressing rooms and experience the atmosphere that goes along with Macca's commentary.

Strong attacking from the Sharks saw them defeat Storm 22-0, with Kye Durie outstanding in attack and defence.  Kye scored 3 tries and Tyson Osborne blitzed the defence to score after a massive gain in metres from Josh, with Tyson successfully converting his try.

Josh also scored after a big run.  Melekai Toby and Brodie Francis were fierce in their defence and Morrigan DeMunk showed a huge improvement in her defence as well. Man of the Match went to Kye with Josh and Morrigan sharing the coaches award.

The Under 10's game against Edmonton was just as hard as the Edmonton team from last week.  This week the boys played more solid footy in parts of the game but still allowed a fast running Edmonton side to cross the line to score some soft tries.

Mossman tries were scored by Ethan Chesterfield and Joseph Wailu - the final score being 20 - 8 against the Sharks.

Man of the match was deserved by Ethan Chesterfield for his strong hit-ups, making valuable meters for his team.

Coach's award was earned by Laquan Warrick for a good effort at training last week.

Under 11 boys were slow to start again this Saturday, letting Edmonton storm get on top very early in the first half.  The only try scored by the Sharks was by Connor Berzinski barging over the line after gathering the ball off a kick by Derrick Sorenson.

Coach Bronson Ryan Snr’s words of encouragement must have worked at half time because the boys came out a different team.

Our halves Pacman and Derrick started feeding our backs Nick, Kanju, Zac, Etho and Bronson the ball, getting it wide.

There was some excellent running up the middle from our forwards Beau, Brayden , Mason, Heath and Connor with Tyrees feeding the ball out from dummy half. The boys tackling improves with every game they play, which showed in the second half with Edmonton only scoring once.  The final score was 24 to 4.

Thank you to the under 10 boys for playing up.

Man of the match goes to Etho Gibson for some great defence.

Even though the under 12’s went down 26-6 the boys really took the game up to a powerful undefeated Storm side.  Edmonton had not conceded any points up until they played the sharkies.  Every player stood tall.

A couple of mistakes from the local boys led to tries and also 2 bombed chances from the team had them right in the game.  Coaching staff were so proud of the boys attitude at training and also on the paddock.

Man of the Match performances by Kyle Solomon who was back to his best in attend and defence and also Josh Cranswick’s permanent move to front row had him play his best game in a Sharks jumper.   Special mention to Zecklyn Grogan Ryan who just had a hip operation, all the team wish him well for a speedy recovery.

The Under 13s put up a gallant fight against a size blessed Edmonton side on the weekend.  The Sharks fought hard with outstanding attacking and defence, with Melekai Williams running amok on the field with his gruelling defence.

Cody Port was fierce in his attacking and Xavian Pitt was on fire, forcing a knock on through great pressure. Campbell Allen ran hard and strong and neither Phillip Oui or Marley Price-Schacer let size deter their running of the ball.

The final score of 32-0 is not a fair indication of the effort displayed by the Sharks, as the whole team fought to the very end.

Man of the Match went to Melekai for his outstanding game and the coaches award was shared between Xavian and Marley for their huge improvement.

The U14's played against Edmonton Storm again on the weekend and were out looking to square up from the previous week. The boys were fired up and this showed by getting the first points on the board.
Defence was improved too, with the mobile Storm forwards not being able to make as much ground as they did last game. The Sharks kept their foot on the pedal the whole game and never let Storm get within reach to finish them off 26-14.

Man of the match went to the cruisy, Khyl Walker, who created headaches with his hard running and players player went to Wayne Oui.

Mossman outplayed, out smarted these Grand Final winners of last season.  With a committed side led by Douglas Parkes and Mat Klauss Mossman enforced its style of play on the opposition and caused Edmonton to play out of its comfort zone.

Edmonton were always in the game but Mossman came away with a two point victory.  The  first time in four years the Mossman boys have beaten this side.  Mossman has now won 4 from 4 and is slowly working its way into a competitive and quality football team.

Man of the Match was Daniel Dowling from fullback who put in one on one defence and outstanding attacking raids.
