Huge support for Low Isles book launch
Some 180 locals came out to celebrate the launch of the Low Isles Preservation Society's book at The Central Hotel last night.
Organisers were expecting about 100 guests but couldn't help themselves getting excited as they expressed their delight at the massive turn out of nearly double that estimate.
The LIPS President Adrian Soffe opened the proceedings with a short speech thanking all concerned for the production of this superb publication including Photographer Kate Agrums, production team Nancy and Keith Bevington and Secretary Louise Orchard and of course the Island caretakers Wayne and Jenny Fox.
Wayne Fox then took to the stage and gave a fascinating and entertaining talk on the Low Isles, it's history, it's composition and the current day activities with the emphasis on both protecting the isles whilst ensuring all those who want to enjoy them can do so without fear of damaging this precious gem.
On the night some 120 books were sold with a further 80 orders taken. To purchase the book you can find it in The Reef Adventure Centre, Whileaway Cafe and Port Douglas Newsagent or of course online at lips.org.au - Cost $39.95.
The whole concept was designed to raise much needed funds for the Preservation society to continue their good works and with over $7,000 already raised before last night.
Sailaway Special Edition is only available at the Reef Adventure Centre, Corner Macrossan and Grant Streets also on board Sailaway to Low Isles or Sunset Sailing.
Steve Edmondson from Sailaway said, “We have been committed to this great project from the outset and delighted with the outcome. We have ordered many and will promote daily and distribute widely as a fantastic piece of destination marketing and souvenir that brings returns to LIPS and Low Isles projects including the upgraded Museum that we are also passionate about.
"We congratulate all the others who contributed time, content and images for Free making the publication so attractive and appealing, including the great delicious recipes.“
