Junior Sharkies take on Roos

It was a huge weekend of Junior Rugby League, and Jenni Walker brings you all the action from the Under 7s right through to Under 15s.

UNDER 7

The Under 7 Sharks returned to the paddock after a couple of weeks off last Saturday in what was a good even game against the Cairns Kangaroos at the Mossman Showgrounds.

The young Sharkies put in an extremely big effort, and with no players on the bench, every player showed great determination right to the final whistle.

Tyson MacKay and Garence Hinton are improving their games every week putting in some great runs and chasing hard in defence.

Azaya, Hallie and Fletch all put in top efforts with their good, hard ball running, while Sax and Coups chased brilliantly in defence saving several tries during the whole game.

The young Sharks displayed fantastic attitude and behaviour and the club is proud of these young troopers.

Man of the Match went to Saxon Vizard for an awesome defensive effort on the day.

UNDER 8

The Under 8s had a hard task on their hands against Kangaroos this week at home.  Although the boys were beaten 8 – 16, they played a fearsome game in defence with some big tackles being made.

Two well-earned tries were scored by David Neller and Wyatt Laurigan.  Man of the match goes to Wyatt Laurigan for never giving up, no matter if the team is winning or losing and Coach’s award goes to Beau Paulke for a good effort at training.

Thank to Saxon Vizard and Fletcher Macdonald for backing up the Under 8s on game day.

UNDER 9

David Neller Jnr and Calm Solomon played up a grade U9 and performed extremely well. Bubba scored a try, tackled the biggest forward on numerous occasions and put him down hard while Calm made heaps of ground and off-loads and played deadly.

UNDER 10

The Under 10s played a remarkably controlled game this week against Kangaroos.  The boys played accountable to their positions in both attack and defence and it was a great game for spectators out on the front field.

The Sharkies' hard work and discipline paid off as they came away with a win of 24 – 8.  Braxton Wienert was ruthless in attack scoring four tries and Jaidyn Osborne also scored two for the team.
Man of the match is undeniably deserved by Braxton Wienert and Coach’s award goes to Lewis Duncan for his devotion to training hard each week.

UNDER 12

The Under 12s kicked off the season taking on the big boys from the APool Kangaroos.  Although going down 16-10, all the team played extremely well from run on to bench.

With a lot of new players in the team it will take time to gel, but the boys had fun.  A couple of errors from the Sharkies let the opposition back into the game.

Man of the match went to new Sharkie Bryon Nona and Jared Tesch who came off the bench.  Lamar Enoch and Payton Adams controlled their sides well and also new players Lachlan Adams and Tarquin Burford also did well on debut.

UNDER 14

The Under 14s travelled to Jones Park to play the giant Kangaroos team. Only 11 regular players attended the game and it was lucky that Cairns Brothers and Edmonton Storm supplied one player each so they could have a full team take the field.

The game started positively with the Sharkies drawing first blood and went into the break trailing 16-6, but the size and mobility of the Roos' boys and the lack of reserves took its toll on the Sharks, and Roos piled on the points to win the game 44-6. Man of the match was the very impressive, Wayne Oui.

UNDER 15

Under 15s took on a very big Kangaroos side and came away with a comfortable win 38 points to 22.  With Lester Port moving into 5/8 and Levi Williams starting at number 7 the side was directed around the park with our forwards giving away a size advantage made massive ground.

Our second rowers, Bryce Caltibano and Wynn Adams, controlled the Kangaroos attack out wide which let our centres finish them off.

We welcome back Lucas Hansen and Kienan Grogan back to our side.  Both players played solidly and with a bit more football under their belt will play better again.  Man of the Match honours went to Lester Port with Bryce Caltibano not far behind.
