"Cult" grows as you lay sleeping
As you lay sleeping, an underground movement with a growing number of members is gaining momentum, getting fitter, stronger, and faster in preparation for their day of reckoning.
Every Wednesday morning at 5.30am, a dedicated group of runners meet at a specified location around Port Douglas - some of whom will tackle the Great Barrier Reef Marathon in November, while others simply participate to enjoy a gentle jog with friends.
The first rule of Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival Social Run Club is "Don't talk about Run Club", and it's a rule which is clearly being ignored.
A record 33 runners gathered in darkness last Wednesday morning at Four Mile Park to welcome in a new day, and undertake a 3km, 6km, or 9km course, and even more are expected tomorrow.

The increase in participants has been steady since the group formed at the start of the year, reflecting an increasing local focus on fitness, health and wellbeing.
The Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival Social Run Club is co-ordinated by triathlete, Nick Carling, and anyone interested in joining the "cult" can call Nick on 0410 094 283, and you can follow their progress on the Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival Facebook page.
