I don't want to harp on, but...
The Taipans flew to Mexico on the weekend to take on the Melbourne Tigers with a voodoo on their heads; one win from the last 22 attempts.
A betting man would think ‘tails’ might be due and they were almost right. Some poor decision making on the last two possessions in the final minute cost our boys the chance to get this monkey off their backs.
In fact, poor decision making is putting it quite mildly as those five on the floor were woeful down the stretch in a game that was there to be won.
In short (as I don’t want to harp on about it) we had possession in the final minute twice and needed to score on both occasions, yet our Snake boys didn’t even get a shot up. Sacrilege!
I can bet coach Fearny could have lived with the loss if plays were attempted, and especially a three-point shot to tie it up had at least been put up.
Move on quickly from that one, work on the breakdowns at practice and focus in on the Reptile Rumble in Townsville on Saturday night.
After all, the bright side is that they played quite well for the most part and positives can be taken from it. Shane Edwards has certainly turned a corner and had a great all round game again (17 pts and 6 rbds). But when you are three points down with the clock about to scream you must attempt a three-pointer. MUST!
But no, I will not harp on about it...
To my knowledge Ernie Baxter was not a basketball fan but it’s impossible to write a sports article this week without giving mention to such a great bloke.
My memories of Ernie start in 1994 before we had a pavilion at the Croc Pit and used to prepare in caravans and use portaloos. Ernie was a very welcoming, warm face around the club back then (and before) right through til now, and a very comical character.
He loved a beer and spinning a yarn which is probably why he was embraced by all so warmly. He never had a harsh word to say about anyone and to my knowledge had no enemies.
It would be hard to imagine the Crocs would have come this far without him. A true loss to the footy club and the community, and of course family and close friends. He certainly will not be forgotten in a hurry. RIP to a true legend!
