Fire up for the New Year
There will be plenty of food, entertainment and fireworks as Port Douglas welcomes in the New Year.
Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree (TPDD) executive officer Doug Ryan said there is no better place to be than Port Douglas.
“Port Douglas has long been a favourite for revellers. Its relaxed charm is a major drawcard but the fact there is so much people can do around New Year’s celebrations is the real bonus.”
Mr Ryan said partygoers could expect all the bells and whistles that a Port Douglas New Year’s Eve celebration is known for and more.
“The town is buzzing with people, there is great nightlife and fantastic revelry. Visitors mix with locals and everyone has a great time.”
The Port Douglas sky will light up as the clock strikes 8.30pm and midnight. The fireworks display, organised by the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce and supported by Cairns Regional Council and local businesses will take place adjacent to The Combined Club at 8.30pm and at Anzac Park on the Port Douglas foreshore at midnight.
It will provide revellers throughout the village centre a spectacular explosion of colour to mark the end of 2012.
“It is great to see so many local businesses pulling out all the stops for New Year’s celebrations and interest in these events has been strong. Salsa Bar & Grill has been booked for months,” Mr Ryan added.
Mr Ryan said there was still accommodation available but urged those considering a short break to Port Douglas to finalise their plans sooner rather than later.
