U12 Muddies in tied thriller
For the first time this season the Under 12s played at the Port Douglas Sports ground on the turf wicket. As captain this week Doble lost the toss and his team was sent into bat against Atherton 1.
The junior Muddies lost two quick wickets before Allison (16 retired) teamed up with Twomey (4 retired) and put their team back on track.
In form Doble took four balls to hit his first four in an innings of 24 (retired) off 16 balls and was well supported by X.Darlington (2) who made it to retirement for the first time this season.
Deuble found the unfamiliar turf wicket challenging but played solidly to retire on 8. Cooper (1) showed some early season form and unluckily lost his wicket just before retirement.
At the tail Kileen (9no) and P.Darlington (4no) put on an 18 run partnership to close out the innings for the Muddies at 5/98.
Promoted to open the bowling was Conner (1/7) who didn’t disappoint snaring a wicket in his second over. Atherton then put on 38 without losing another wicket until Curtis (2/8) took wickets with consecutive balls.
McDowall (0/6) continues to impress with good straight bowling in only his second game. With the opposition at 3/60 our boys needed some quick wickets,
Allison was handed the ball and promptly removed their two top batsmen while Twomey (1/9) again chipped in taking a wicket in two sundry free overs.
Atherton needed 8 runs from the two final overs to win with 4 wickets still in hand. Allison charged in to bowl his third over and took a further 2/5 leaving him with a personal best of 4/8 for the game.
It was left to fast bowler Deuble to bowl the final six balls with 3 runs to defend. With a run coming from his third and fourth ball the scores were locked up he then followed up with consecutive dots balls.
The last ball saw the Atherton batsman get an inside edge that was fielded at square leg, A bad call by the batsmen saw a mix up and captain Doble quickly whipped the bails off ending the game in a tie.
