Julia set for eclipse excitement

Australian TV personality Julia Morris will host a countdown to the eclipse on 'solar eve' at Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas to raise money for UNICEF.

We spoke with Julia to find out what we can expect, and how she'll experience the astronomical event.

The Newsport: Have you ever experienced a solar eclipse?

Julia Morris: I have never seen a solar eclipse before so I am very excited to see it in the flesh.  Light overcoming darkness has always been one of my favourites.

TN: The eclipse happens at 6.38am the day after the Sheraton Mirage event which aids UNICEF. Is there a chance you’ll sleep through it?

JM: There is every chance I will sleep through it. I am a night stalker, although with little children they like 'the world's most ungrateful restaurant' to open early. That's what I call our kitchen.

TN: Have you ever missed an important event?

JM: I have never missed an important event, or if I have I have blocked it from my memory. Being 40 I think my brain has lost a lot of stuff.

TN: Who will you be sharing the eclipse experience with and where will you be watching it from?

JM: I will be experiencing the eclipse alone and I will more than likely be watching it from inside my eyelids.

TN: What can we expect at the Sheraton's UNICEF Event on ‘Solar Eve’?

JM: Loads of laughter. I always say to people if you don't need a laugh then stay at home. I suspect we all need a bit of a giggle and that is exactly what our UNICEF event is about. Love, laughter and good times together.

TN: The Solar Eclipse Marathon starts the moment the sun comes out from behind the moon. Will you be joining them?

JM: To be completely honest I have not run at all since 1976 so I cannot imagine the morning after our event is when I will reverse that lifestyle change.

TN: What would be the song you’d love to listen to during the eclipse?

JM: Bonnie Tyler "Total eclipse of the heart." How could I possibly consider anything else?

TN: What are you plans after the eclipse has occurred?

JM: I am working like a slave getting ready for our second series of House Husbands on Channel 9 so back to work immediately.
