Sunset to rock the Yacht Club

Local music talent will hit the stage at grassroots music festival Sunset In The Park (Mini) this Saturday at the Port Douglas Yacht Club.

After the success of last year's event, 2012 is sure to attract another big crowd eager to check out the line-up which includes Cairns-based muso Eddie Skiba, the ever popular Gusman, Fashion Tips For Tractors, and heaps more.

"There's a lot of pride goes into it. It's a local's thing run by locals, the majority of the musicians are locals," said the long-time local, but now Melbourne-based muso Ben Jammin' who will be playing a set on Saturday.

"Some might say it's another excuse to go out and have a drink, but I think there's a lot more to it than that.

"It's something that someone had a vision for and went 'We don't have to wait for Carnivale every year. We can do something of our own that's for us.'

"It's always an absolute pleasure to come and play this particular event," he said.

"I lived up here for seven years between 2001 and 2008, it still feels like home every time I come back."

The party starts at 1pm and goes til late - "real late" according to event organisers.

Tickets are $10 each or $20 for families (2 adults, 2 kids up to 12 years old).
