Under 14 Raiders match report

The Under 14 Reef Raiders played at home under lights for the first time this season and with a win last week the boys were full of confidence.

The match started out at a franic pace by both teams but it was Quinlyn Cannon who put the Raiders on the board first. But TAS hit back straight away with a try of their own.

The Raiders had great field position for the majority of the first half but just couldn't seem to get across the line. The referee was handing them opportunities but the Raiders couldn't seem to make the most of them.

When TAS had the ball they took their chances and put two tries on the Raiders' boys and took a 19 to 5 lead into the break.

The second half saw the Raiders tire from all the tackling of the much bigger TAS players and it saw TAS take a three try advantage. But to the Raiders' credit they never gave up and it was only the bounce of the ball which saw Cannon not score his second try.

The captain, Locke Cowe, took matters into his own hands by picking up the ball from the back of the scrum and darting over for the Raiders second try, and Cannon slotted the sideline conversion.

TAS hit back quickly to score two more five pointers. The final score line of 43 to 12 didn't reflect the way that the Raiders played for at times they were the better team.

The players of the day were front rower Jack Dwyer and Fraser Cotton who come back from injury. The Port Putt Putt Man of the Match went to Quinlyn Cannon.

Next week the Raiders travel to Cairns to avenge their loss.
