Lucas snares hat trick

Muddies Blue make it three from three and are hunting an outright victory against Mulgrave, says skipper Simon Cody.

The boys headed down to Fretwell Park for an early start and there were a couple of hiccups but play eventually got under way 15 minutes late.

Adam Lucas had to make the toss as the captain was running a little behind schedule, but Lucas lost the toss and was sent in to field which turned into a blessing in disguise.

Lucas opened the bowling, was destructive as usual, and was rewarded with a great hat trick with a bowled, LBW and bowled again. He even managed to break the bail!

Play was stopped for five minutes as a new one was brought out from the store room. Adam Lucas finished with top figures of 6/14 off ten overs.

The battle for top bowler in the team was well under way and Dangerous Dave Johnson also got in on the act with figures of 4/9 off ten.

The Muddies Blue had Mulgrave all out for 25. Both Lucas and Johnson were well rewarded for full and straight bowling with seven out of the ten wickets to fall being bowled or LBW.

The Muddies had their target and knew exactly what to do. Sam Hodgson and Rob Gaul opened the batting and made the total in five overs. Skipper Cody let the boys carry on as they were going at six an over and having some fun.

Rob Gaul brought up 50 in 41 balls and smashed the last 33 of those runs off 13 balls. The openers made a great partnership of 84 before Gaul was caught out on 52. Hodgson played a very controlled and calculated 26 not out.

The skipper Cody called the boys in at the fall of the wicket and sent Mulgrave back in for the second time in one day.

With first innings points in the bag the skipper had some freedom to allow other blowers to get in on the act. Vic Chandra opened the bowling and was rewarded in his first over to finish with figures of 2/13 off 6 overs.

Gary Postans had his first bowl for the club and got his first wicket with a spectacular caught and bowled and finished with figures of 2/9 off 4 overs.

It was all Dave Johnson in the second innings taking 4/1 off 3 overs and he is looking in great form for the club.

The days' play was finished and Mulgrave were 8/24 still chasing the Muddies Blue first innings score of 84. The lads will head down next Sunday for what will surely be a short trip as they only need two wickets to grab their first outright win and keep the momentum going all the way to the end of season.

This is Captain Simon Cody logging off.
