Allen stars in Under 12s

On Friday night the Under 12 Port Douglas Reef Raiders Rugby Union team kicked off the 2012 season in style, steam-rolling the fancied TAS White Rock team in Cairns.

The young Raiders took control of the game from the whistle with a strong attacking style of play. Showing all class in the #10 jersey Zac Osborne opened the account with the first two tries of the match.

The forwards dominated play with a go forward, straight up the middle attitude and the clearing out at the rucks was fantastic with quick ball delivered to the backs from Leith (Lethal) Malone.

Captain on the night William Brown (Brownie) lead from the front all night and was awarded the third 5-pointer of the night with Zac converting the score was 17 -7.

A Man of the Match performance from Campbell Allen with his barnstorming running and hard as nails tackling went over for the Raiders' fourth try in the second half.

The Raiders defended their line well and with pace to burn outside with Tom Walker, and with Zeclan Grogan-Ryan in the centres they kept the opposition guessing all night.

But the try of the night went to local lass Georgia Kelly who had an outstanding game as blindside flanker, scooping up the ball from broken play she crashed over the line taking four defenders with her.

Coaches Tod Malone and Darryl Kirk were very happy with the way the team went about their business as it has laid out a good platform for the rest of the season…
