Council begins funding review
It could be months before the future of Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree is known as Council begins its review of its funding to tourism organisations.
With around three quarters of TPDD's approximately $600,000 budget coming from the region's ratepayers, Mayor Bob Manning would not be rushed into making a decision.
"I've listened to Doug's (TPDD executive officer Doug Ryan) presentations a number of times," Cr Manning said.
"We've got until 30 June 2013...Ideally we want to make more money available for tourism marketing promotions. How we do that is something we're turning our minds to at the moment."
The possibility of TPDD being incorporated into the operations of Tourism Tropical North Queensland would not be ruled out.

"I'm a believer in the industry determining how the industry is run. I don't like the ideal of governments, or local governments even, telling the industry how it should market itself.
"But at the end of the day the funder does have some say, and what the funder really wants is to be reassured that what we're doing is what's best for the region.
"Whether that's by a diversity of bodies doing various things or whether it's one body managing an overall process is to be determined," Cr Manning said.
"There is nothing wrong, from time to time, with reviewing what we're doing, how we're doing it, is it giving us the best outcome?"
Mr Ryan told The Newsport last week that the region would risk losing around $20 million in media presence should Council not renew TPDD's funding next financial year.
