A record 87 entries have been received for the 2012 Tropical Innovation Awards, and applicants will learn of their fate on 30 November.

52 entries were received from our region, while others came from as far afield as Fremantle in a bid to have their innovation recognised and rewarded.

Judges will now assess the entries while the public will have their say in the People's Choice category - a shortlist will be released shortly.

Meanwhile, the Port Douglas Magazine 2012 Douglas Business Awards to be held on Saturday 20 October will also honour a local innovation.
