Dragons celebrate a winning season
The champion Verri Industries Douglas Dragons held their Presentation night at the Port Douglas Yacht Club on Sunday evening to celebrate their first ever Premier winning season in their 46 year history.
Current President Rodney Rasmussen, in his first year of office, spoke proudly of the club's achievement since he and club coach Logan Marsh sat at Paddy's Bar pre-season and discussed the invitation by the league administration for them to re-enter the Premier League after a couple of years rebuilding the club in the second division.
President Rasmussen said what an achievement winning the Premier Grand Final was for the whole club.
"We are dependent every year on visitors and backpackers to bolster our hard core locals. This win will spread our reputation across the world especially when some of our British players get back home. Everyone wants to play at a winning club," he said.
Marsh thanked both the players and the backroom boys and girls who make things happen.
Club captain, Nick Tither, also thanked President Rasmussen, Vice President Darren Case and Sponsors especially the main sponsor Verri Industries for putting their faith into an unknown entity and how pleased the whole club was to have paid them back with the Premiership trophy.
Rasmussen, Case, Marsh and Tither then presented Nathan Verri, Chief executive from Verri Industries with a framed and fully autographed club shirt as a memento of this winning season to display in
