Hole in one? You Bette!

In another massive week of Mossman Golf, the highlight was surely the hole in one scored by Bette Wells during the Lucy Giles Monthly Medal.

In other events, 46 players competed in the Blue Water Marina Monthly Medal at Mossman Golf Club, and the event was won by Wayne Dowell with nett 66.

In second was place was Mal McKellar with 69 nett on a count-back to Kym Rowley. Nearest the pins went to Mal on 6, Ian Steley on 8, Mike Gillam on 10, Peter Dowell on 13 and Peter Lewis on 17.

The winner of Wednesday’s nine hole event was Bob Hoskin with 24 points and second place was John Reason with 23 points on a count-back to Ron Smith and Don Demler.

Nearest the pins were Helen Gabour on 6 and Barry Rouse on 10.

Mossman hosted a field of 86 Ladies with 65 players travelling from the FNQ region including Cairns, Paradise Palms, Half Moon Bay, Gordonvale, Atherton, Millaa Millaa and Mareeba. 

The winner of the Lucy Giles Monthly Medal was Bette Wells with a nett score of 67. Her score included an elusive Hole In One on the 8th 105m par 3. Bev Cowe won the putting competition.

Division I gross winner  Pam Shay 85, runner-up Sue Barnard 86.
Division I nett winner Madeline Howell 67, runner-up Bev Cowe 68.
Division II gross winner Margaret Logan 88, Lyn Heimann 94.
Division II nett winner Bette Wells 67, runner-up Audrey Shephard 69.
Division III gross winner Carol Howard 106, runner-up Leonie Phillips 107.
Division III nett winner Chris Payze 70, runner-up Gail Carroll 74.
Nearest the pins – Madeline Howell on 6, Bette’s ace on 8, Chris Payze on 10, Ann Moss on 13 & Dee Jackson on 17.

The Friday Frolic was enjoyed by plenty of social players. For players with handicaps, the competition was won by Robert Drew with 23 ahead of Ray Bennetts 21 points.

Saturday’s Stableford event attracted a field of 55 players. Division I was won by Ian Steley with 42 points with runner-up John Deuble with 39 points.  Division II was won by Maurie Meth with 41 points with runner-up Rick Weimar with 39 points.

Nearest the pins were Jeff Murray on 6, Charlie Kadic on 8, Des Graham on 10, Lloyd Redpath on 13 and M.Gautry on 17.

The Ladies Stableford was won by Julie Hooker with 38 points ahead of Patti Graham 37 points, Glenda Christensen 36 points and Christie Bouwkamp 35 points. Nearest the pins were Shona Barbour on 6 and 13, Patti on 8 and Glenda on 10.

The Sunday stableford event was won by Don Demler with 37 points. Nearest the pins were John Cameron on 6 and Christie Bouwkamp on 10.
