First sign concept received
There has been much discussion as to what a landmark marking visitors' arrival in Port Douglas might look like, and now we have an example thanks to the efforts of a reader of The Newsport.
Richard Hopper designed this sign encompassing many of the special features of this region.
"I was actually thinking what a good idea it would be to have a sign up with photo images or painted images of work done by locals," Richard said.
"The central image of the word 'love' ties it with the lower slogan 'Gotta love it here'. Let's face it, we all do don't we?"
Richard said there was a wide variety of images which could be used in the design including St Mary's By The Sea and the famous Sugar Wharf.
"The ones I put in show a little bit of the rainforest, a beautiful swimming hole and a couple of our more popular but much forgotten about creatures."
He said the design of the sign was created by "simply messing around" on a photo editing programme.

Duncan Watts from marketing company the 20/20 Group in Cairns said a well-designed sign would complement a broader marketing message.
"If Port Douglas wants to re-establish its identity, it would aim to push that message out through all sales activities and promotional campaigns.
"A sign supporting and reflecting these messages would certainly constitute a nice touch, especially if it’s enough of a landmark to make it a must-do photo opportunity.
"(There are) some great ideas from Newsport readers though; their application just needs to be considered as part of the bigger picture in promoting Port Douglas."
