Finals fever in junior netball

10 UNDER

Douglas Junior Netball started last Tuesday with the 10/Under Pythons playing the Gladiators on Court 1.

The Gladiators played fantastic team netball driving the ball to their goals, but the Pythons' defence worked over-time keeping the Gladiators to just 1 goal by half time from 7 attempts.

The game brought out the best of as both teams constantly intercepting in a brilliantly played, close game. The Pythons won narrowly 2-1.

Best players were Hannah Durie, Koreena Minniecon, Ebony Schonenberger and Tayhla Cadiente.

The Wildcatz played the Net Set Go girls and the Wildcatz dominated the first half with Myah Lowenstain-Jones having another strong shooting game partnering up with Ebony Bland to make it 5-1 at half time.

Net Set Go player Alyssa Jones showed her improvement moving the ball down the court well with the help of Edie Thrutell and Anna Padovan.  Grace Richardson defended with gusto helping keep the Wildcatz scoreless in the third quarter.

Best and fairest was awarded to MacKenzie Booth and Grace Richardson, Players' Choice was Kate Padovan and Alyssa Jones.  Final score Wildcatz 7-1.

This was the final game for the season for the 10/Under teams. The girls have excelled in their netball learning lots of new skills. Many will move up to 12/Under next year and the Net Set Go girls are now a force to be reckoned with when they play next year.

Thank you players for making the 10/Under division a lot of fun and a great success.  Special thanks to Meg Goodall, coach of the Pythons, Aimee Watson, coach of the Gladiators, Alex Heidke, coach of the Wildcatz and to Alison Richardson and Heather Orwin, coaches of the Net Set Go girls.  Come along next week girls and support the grand final!

The 12/Under competition saw the Miallo Allstars on Court 1 against the Poison Apples for a spot in the Grand Final.

The Allstars played a very strong defensive game against the Apples. They were 3 goals down by half time and Tilly Mellows put in a very strong game, fantastic in defence and Krystal Schultz was excellent in attack.

The Apples were determined from the starting siren to take the game on and succeeded coming away with a 13-2 win. For the Apples Denby Woods was pivotal in attack and Shonnie Lomas was hot in defence.

The Apples are through to the Grand Final - well done!  Great game and well competed Allstars.

The Diamonds played the Red Hot Peppers. The Diamonds gained their Grand Final berth last week and this week both teams played a skills match.

The Peppers, with a little more time together, would have been a top competitor for the Grand Final, especially with some great coaching by Jess Eagle-Rowe. The team lifted at every opportunity against the experienced Diamonds.

Best players for Diamonds were Jasmine Kirk and Aleesha Viola, and for the Peppers Jennifer Bellero and Faith Kempster.  Final score 19-4 to the Diamonds.

Thanks to coaches Jodi Francis, Diamonds, Felicity Mellows, Allstars, Natalie Littler, Poison Apples and Peppers, Jess Eagle-Rowe.
