Bright day for cancer support
Cancer Council Queensland is calling on locals to brighten the lives of those affected by cancer and buy a daffodil on Daffodil Day this Friday.
This year marks 26 years of Daffodil Day in Australia and more supporters are needed to help Cancer Council reach its goal of raising $1.9 million across the state and $9.2 million nationally.
Cancer Council Queensland Fundraising Coordinator Lynsie James said volunteers will be out in force early on Friday selling fresh daffodils and merchandise.
“Every dollar donated in support of Daffodil Day helps to grow hope for better treatments, hope for more survivors, and hope for a cancer free future.
“Every day, around 300 Australians are told they have a life-threatening cancer. With your help this Daffodil Day, we can make a difference and beat this disease."
More than 1200 volunteers across the state are expecting to sell around 800,000 fresh daffodils on Daffodil Day 2012.
People can purchase their fresh daffodils and Daffodil Day gifts for friends and loved ones at Coles Supermarket Port Douglas, and Woolworths Mossman, Anich’s Mossman Pharmacy, and Mossman Newsagency.
