The Rattle n Hum Reef Raiders headed to Stan Williams Park on Saturday to take on Brothers in their final game of the home and away season.

With a place already confirmed in the semis, the Raiders headed down there to make a statement to all the other teams in the finals. With the captain sitting out due to injury and the coach giving a few guys more game time they were pretty confident of taking away a win.

But someone forgot to let Brothers know and it was they who scored within the first two minutes of the game. The raiders then realised it wasn't just a practice match and turned the game around with some great kicking by Grae Gilbert giving the Raiders a chance to attack Brothers line.

Paul Ferrero was punching holes in the defence which was putting the Raiders on the front foot and this led to Phil Pratt scoring under the posts. Within 10 minutes it was Liam Cowe crossing the corner for the Raiders' second try.

Back chat then cost the visitors three points but they still went to the half leading 12 to 8.

The second half was a struggle for both teams as they went end to end with only the last pass to go down, or forward, or some great cover defence by both fullbacks.

Brothers took first advantage of their field position with a line out move that landed them a try. Then, with back to back errors, it cost the Raiders another seven points with which Brothers finished the game. The final score was Brothers 22 Raiders 12. 

The Raiders had their chances but just couldn't convert field pressure in points.

Standout players for the day were Paul Ferrero, Martin Paulger and Paddys Player of the day was Nick Sherston.

The Raiders head down to West Barlow to take on JCU in the knock out final at 5pm. This game should be a close affair with the Raiders beating JCU once already this year by 17 points.

The other two games saw JCU win, but the biggest margin was just 10 points.  The coach said the Raiders need to stop making silly errors in their end, plus cut out the back to back mistakes.

"The regular season is over and finals are a different kind of game."
