Seniors Week in Port Douglas and Mossman

From morning teas to Tai Chi sessions, Seniors Week will be celebrated in the Port Douglas and Mossman area with a host of activities planned during August.

Cairns Regional Council has joined with local organisations to arrange a program of activities that promote health, independence and social participation in the community.

“Seniors Week is an opportunity for Queenslanders of all ages to unite and celebrate the valuable contributions of seniors,” Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said.

Division 10 Councillor Julia Leu encouraged residents to get involved in the activities planned.

“There are a variety of different activities planned for Mossman, Port Douglas and Cow Bay," Cr Leu said

“I'm looking forward to attending as many events as possible. It is important to celebrate the enormous contribution of seniors to our way of life.”

Activities spanning from north of the Daintree River to Mossman and Port Douglas are on offer.

Celebrations kick off on tomorrow with Douglas Shire Seniors Inc Lunch and Morning Melodies, proudly supported by Mossman Bowls Club and Cairns Regional Council.

This will be followed by Circle of Wisdom’s morning tea at Cow Bay (Diwan Sports Shed, next to the health clinic), Port Douglas Tennis Club’s social tennis morning, morning tea at Mossman Community Centre’s Men’s Shed, Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre’s Broadband for Seniors and Intro to Tai Chi sessions.

In addition, Council is supporting “in house” Devonshire Teas and sing-alongs for residents at Ozcare and Mossman Multi-Purpose Health Service.

As participation numbers are limited for most activities, bookings are essential
