BMX and skate parks in the region, including Mossman's in Foxton Avenue, could soon receive an overhaul as part of a Council strategy to improve the health of young people in the area.

A draft report by Council's Sport & Recreation Unit outlines a $50,000 plan to expand Mossman's skate park and build additional seating, however current estimates indicate work won't be completed until 2014 or 2015.

Wonga youth may see the benefits of the strategy sooner with a small $25,000 skate park being proposed with a completion date by 2014 at the latest.

"These activities and the environments where they are undertaken contribute directly to the health and wellbeing of our communities by encouraging physical activity developing social networks," the draft report stated.

"These outcomes are particularly important given the disturbing trends associated with sedentary and inactive lifestyles, particularly amongst children."
