Season on the line for Raiders
The Rattle 'n' Hum Reef Raiders headed to JCU on the weekend after their bye with a win securing a finals berth. But JCU were playing for their season and it was they who took control of the match early.
JCU used the wind to put the Raiders on their line and it took 15 minutes to get across for their first try. After the kickoff the Raiders were put under the pump again due to some handling errors and missed tackles which JCU took advantage of by posting their second try.
But the Raiders started to get more possession and a few calls go their way and they made the most of it with Grae Gilbert scoring a try right in the corner and Shane Branch scoring five minutes later in the same corner.
The score at the half was 14-10 to JCU and the Raiders knew they still had a chance with the wind behind them in the second half.
The second half didn't start well for the Raiders with two quick tries scored in the first 20 minutes. Just when it seemed the Raiders were going to score in the corner, an interception was taken and with three more phases JCU scored a length of the field try.

With 10 minutes remaining it looked that the Raiders were gone, but to their credit they fought back and scored two tries within the last five minutes and it was only the clock that stopped them scoring a third.
The final scoreline was 33-22 to JCU.
The try scorers for the Raiders were Shane Branch, Grae Gilbert, Simon Chick and Nick Sherston with one conversion. Players of the day were Ethan Hoffman, Nick Sherston and the Paddys player of the day went to Simon Chick.
So with a bonus point gained from the weekend the Raiders head to Cairns to take on Brothers who sit in second spot with a must win game to make the finals.
