Run from Kuranda to Port Douglas

Pick your distance for this year’s Kuranda to Port Douglas Trail Race on Sunday, 26 August 2012.

While many runners will attempt the 64km from Kuranda to Port Douglas, there is something for everyone at this year’s event including 64km Ultra Relay (2-5 runners), Twin Bridges Half Marathon, 16km Bump to Beach and 5km Four Mile Beach fun run/walk.

The 64km events cover the entire course, with the shorter distance making up sections of the course on dirt roads between Kuranda to Port Douglas.

Lorraine Lawson, President of the Cairns Road Runners, says this year’s event are attracting even more competitors than last year.

“It’s a great event for those who are trying for their first Ultra event. The Twin Bridges Half Marathon follows the old East Black Mountain Road and the Bump to Beach includes the Bump Track,” said Mrs Lawson.

“This year there is a national and international flavour with Ultra competitors from Qld, WA, NT, VIC, United Kingdom, USA, PNG and Mongolia. But for the locals or visitors who are just in it for a bit of fun, there is the 5km Fun Run/Walk in Port Douglas on the beach.”

The Kuranda to Port Douglas Trail Race is the fourth event in the FNQ Trail Running Series, and the winners of the series will be crowned at the end of the event on the 26th of August.

The Kuranda to Port Douglas Trail Race (K2PD) inaugural event was in 2011 with 74 competitors. As in 2011, the various events start at different locations along the course, with transport being offered to visitors from out of town.
