Douglas Junior Netball Roundup

Under 10s

The Douglas Junior Netball competition began with the 10/Under Pythons playing the Gladiators, both teams always put on a great show.  As usual it was fast and furious, the Pythons took a while to get their groove on but they found it in the 2nd quarter.

It was hard to get past the Gladiators defence, as usual, Jenna Kerswell was unstoppable, Heidi Pahsen in centre was all over the court and GS Carla Young was a formidable force in the goal circle.  Charlotte Dowling went down in the 3rd quarter but the Pythons kept on trying, Taylah Cadiente and Tessa Roberts giving it all.

The final quarter saw the Pythons take control in the goal circle, Charlotte Dowling back on and scoring 2 great goals sealing the win.  Final score Pythons 8 def. Gladiators 6.

The Wildcatz played Net Set Go on Court 2, the game started with the teams playing in their own sides, although the Wildcatz age and experience slowed up the Net Set Go girls they still put on some great netball showing how they have improved only letting in one goal in the first quarter.

The girls then combined for the next three quarters, Grace Richardson read the play well, Edie Thurtell (Player's choice) finding space and Michaela Nesbitt (Best & Fairest) a natural netballer in the making, were standouts for Net Set Go.

For the Wildcatz, Myah Lowenstein-Jones proved her versatility playing Centre and Goal Attack excellently and Paige Bellero winning 'Player's Choice' for her natural defending ability.  Goal Shooters Jay Heidke, Myah Lowenstein-Jones and Kate Padovan scoring for both sides making it a win to the Wildcatz 6-3.

Under 12s

The 12/Under competition had the Diamonds play the Poison Apples.  The Diamonds were in form shooting 9 to 3 in the first half, Piper Adams was on fire at goal moving well in the circle, for the Apples the team put in a great defensive game but lots of pressure in their goal circle saw many misses at goal.

Player's Choice for Diamonds Mia Devine-Cameron for Apples, Tiah McLean, Best & Fairest for Diamonds Aleesha Viola and for Apples Cartier Bennett.

Final score 19-9.

Court 2 had the Red Hot Peppers playing the Miallo Allstars, both teams displayed team spirit and co-operation in producing an exciting game, the defence of the Peppers was consistent and Keely Harold was awarded the Coral Deen Team Spirit Award and Savanah Scott the Most Consistent.

The Allstars showed excellent skills and thanks to Georgia McCarthy, Jenna Kerswell and Ebony Schonenberger for always being available and willing to commit to playing a grade up.  Matilda Mellows was awarded the Team Sprirt Award and Ellie McKay the most consistent.

Final score Allstars 7 def. Peppers 3.

Under 14/16

The 14-16/Under competition started with the Vipers playing the Breakers, the Vipers dominated with excellent passing over the court and deadly accurate shooting by Jade Schuck, Molly Delaney made some good intercepts.

The Breakers defended well, Georgia Duncan used her height and skill to advantage staving off many an attack in the circle and Courtney Day was also excellent in defence.

Final score Vipers 29 def. Breakers 1.

Under 12 Reps

The 12/Under Reps played the Fusion on Court 2, the teams mixed around with the Fusion not having their older players this week.  Taking full advantage the 12 Reps played a fantastic game defeating the Fusion team 16-12.

The Reps were 12-5 at half time, the Fusion team fought back but not enough to overcome the Reps.  Dynamite were a little slow off the blocks against the Sapphires on Court 3 shooting 6-1, Dynamite fought back outscoring the Sapphires in the 2nd half but not good enough to take the game.

The Sapphires played a great game starting strongly and not giving up. Well done girls!  Player's choice for Sapphires, Frankie Webster, for Dynamite Eleisha Mealing, Best & Fairest Sapphires, Daisy Hawkes for Dynamite Simone Pringle.

Final score Saphires 20 def. Dynamite 17.
