Go for gold this Saturday

A fun run to celebrate the opening of the 2012 London Olympics will be held this Saturday, and runners are asked to get into the Olympic spirit.

The fun run is the initiative of Actin Fitness' Nick Carling who is motivating locals to build up to the Solar Eclipse Marathon full and half distance events in November.

"Watching the Olympic athletes can act as a motivator for people of any level, and that's what this fun run is all about," Nick said.

"This event is open to athletes, walkers, non-exercisers, kids, and anyone who feels like blowing out some cobwebs, the more the merrier."

1km, 3km, and 5km courses will be on offer, and the minimal entry fee entry will go towards raising funds for the Port Douglas Solar Eclipse Marathon Training Squad, a growing group of local runners who are setting their sights on the once-in-a-lifetime event.

Participants in Saturday's fun run are encouraged to dress up in their finest Olympic outfits as a tribute to our athletes in London.

The fun run starts in Stinger Park, will be followed by Group Kick and Group Centergy sessions, and a BBQ breakfast hosted by the team at Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.
