Funding open for regional events
Organisers of events to be held in regional Queensland have until 5pm on Friday 3 August to be eligible to apply for funding under Round 23 of the Events Queensland Regional Development Program (EQRDP).
The EQRDP is an investment program designed to extend the flow of economic and social benefits of events to regional Queensland.
Events Queensland want event organisers to submit their funding applications for events held between 1 January 2013 and 30 September 2014 by the Round 23 deadline.
Funding covers items such as marketing costs, strategic planning, engagement of specialised personnel and the hire of temporary infrastructure.
Information on how to apply for event funding through the EQRDP can be found at www.eventsqld.com.au or call 1300 881 255.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey has accepted the recommendation of the Events Queensland Board to appoint former Cairns Airport boss Stephen Gregg as Chair of Events Queensland.
Mr Gregg has also been appointed Chair of Tourism Queensland, which was approved by Executive Council last week.

Ms Stuckey said Mr Gregg's experience and contribution to the Queensland tourism industry over the last 30 years will bring strong leadership to both organisations.
"Mr Gregg's appointment follows the departure of Geoff Dixon who advised me in March, that he would not be renewing his term as Events Queensland Chair," Ms Stuckey said.
"I would like to personally thank Mr Dixon for his industry leadership and commitment over the last three years, which has undoubtedly helped raise Queensland's profile as a leading events destination."
Ms Stuckey also announced that Ms Kirsten Herring will be appointed interim CEO of Events Queensland following the resignation of John O'Sullivan who is taking up a position with Fox Sports.
