Under 10 Crocs reach new heights

It has been another big week in Junior AFL with the Crocs' Under 10 team putting in their best game of the year.

The sleepy hollows of Holloways Beach were awoken by the mighty roar of the Port Douglas Crocs Under 8s on Sunday morning.

In a tight and bruising opening quarter the Crocs started to get their running game going with some quick and clever goals from young guns Colby ”Krakouer” Taylor and Kai ”Capper” Durie.

Sam ”Rhys-Jones” Wall was in everything, in and under each contest and played a brilliant game. With a slight distraction of a few low flying planes, Ethan ”The door mat” Scott was effective down
back and was well supported by Daniel ”Lewis” Harrington and game day captain Dalton “Ratten” Wall.

Zippy rover Hayden ”Milne” Poole again produced another consistent game with goal of the day in the third quarter and the strong marking powers of Angus ”Carey” Van Rouylan and the smiling Tam ”Watson” Neguyen delighted many.

Coach’s awards went to Kai, Tam, Daniel and Colby.

“The best game from the team this season,” Coach “Coops” told the Junior Crocs Under 10s on Sunday at Holloways Beach.

Numbers were down but the team pulled together and, with the help of Kai Durie (from Crocs Under 8s) and Mark Donaldson (from Lions Under 8s), played a strong game against the Cairns City Lions.
Goal kickers were Dean Laurence (2), Same Corrie (2), Slade Roberts (1), Anthony Long (1) and Mark Donaldson (1).  Kai, Jake, Jacob, Scott and Jamie all contributed towards the goals with excellent defence, hand balling and marking.

The medal went to Sam Corrie and awards to Dean Laurence, Slade Roberts and Anthony Long.

Under 12

The Crocs Under 12s played the competition's top team Lions Blue at Holloways Beach on Sunday.

The boys got off to a great start with Ryan Bourguignon, Ben Muia and Daniel Davidson winning the ball out of the middle and giving our forwards plenty of opportunities to score.

Hugo Corrie again proved a good target taking strong marks and kicking two goals, as did Joel Bowen who took some great marks playing in front.

Our back line, led by Charlie Burns and Toby Ellison, worked hard against their Lions opponents and repelled many of the Lions' forward attacks.  With both teams running and tackling hard the score was close throughout the game.

Unfortunately for the Crocs the Lions' bigger players proved the difference in the end as they ran out winners 45 to the Crocs 33 points.

All the players put in a great effort with best players being Ryan Bourguignon, Ben Muia and Leon Wren. The boys have a week’s break due to school holidays, with their next game being at home in Port Douglas on the 8th of July.
