First win for U15 Sharks plus all junior reports

The U15 Sharks chalked up their first win of the season over the Tully Tigers last Saturday at Vico oval in Cairns.  With Quinlan Cannon Jack Dickson and Jake McCormack all back in the team after a couple of weeks off, the boys were at full strength for the first time this season and after a hard physical week at training the Sharks were primed for the clash.

As usual the big hits started early in the forwards with Curtis, Chesty and Jaggar  smashing into the Tully big boys which was a great spectacle for the crowd, but the Tigers still managed to cross for the first two tries of the game. Halfback and captain Patty Lanskey was forced out of the game with an arm injury after ten minutes and Quinlan Cannon moved to halfback with immediate impact placing a clever kick for Levi Williams to score a great try and then carving up the Tigers defence to score one of his own. Jack Dickson combined with Quinlan and Levi to cross twice before halftime to make the score 20-16.

In the second half the Sharks fitness kicked in and the Tigers were only allowed to score one try. The defensive effort of the entire team was outstanding and is a direct result of their hard work put in at training. Hambone McLean played well at hooker and Josh Fasano was again strong in the forwards along with Dwar Creek who is showing great leadership amongst the team. Jake McCormack was damaging every time he ran the ball and is continually improving his game.

Curtis Hober earned man of the match for his search and destroy defensive effort. Try scorers on the day were Levi two, Jack two, Quinny, Toddy and Chesty with Quinny kicking six out of seven conversions.

The final score was 40-20 to the Sharks, and now the boys know what they are capable of doing, they are looking forward to a couple more wins.

The U13's came up against the top of the table Tully Tigers, on the weekend and put in a huge performance against a much larger team to scrape home with a 16 all draw. The defensive effort and never say die attitude really showed the tenacity this young side has. The man of the match and players player award went to a standout Wayne 'Kamikaze' Oui ,with stinging tackles and barnstorming runs the feature of the day.

The Mighty Mossman Under 9’s showed what good training was this week.  In the first game we were a little undermanned but came away with a win.  Leif Hatfield and Matty Graves were sensational in everything they did.  Ran hard, tackled hard but most importantly were smiling the whole game.  In the second game Mossman were back to full strength with Acasia Bowen and Heath Duncan directing the team around against a strong and elusive Kangaroos outfit.  It was very hard this week to pick a Man of The Match as everyone stood out and did their jobs.  In the end the fellow that stood out just a little bit more than others was Matty Graves who always puts in 100 percent whether we win or lose.

The Under 8s had an action packed game of footy on the weekend, defeating Roos 52-16.  Great team work in attacking saw the unstoppable Kye Durie cross the line 7 times along with Zechariah Paulke (2), Brodie Francis (2), Ryan Hawking  and Tyson Osborne.  Kaelen Marr put training drills into practice and showed that his right shoulder was a force to be reckoned with and the two newcomers, Jamie Borzi and Morrigan DeMunk showed a huge improvement earning themselves Coaches Awards.  Zechariah's fierce attacking saw him named this week's Man of the Match.

The Under 11’s welcomed another new Sharkie to the team Jai Hauser and kept their  great start to the season going with a 10-8 win against Brothers Blue.  Again they continually turned over ball and non completion of sets but the boys must love to tackle because it was their defence which turned out to be the difference between the two sides.  Led by Man of the Match Billy Kadwell moving up and meeting his opposition front rowers and Lachlan Buzza and Zeklyn Grogan Ryan running and defence all over the field was inspirational and the rest of the team responded holding out continual attack from a team with plenty of runners.  Coaches mention to Sean Demunk whose discipline to training showing where it matters with continued improvement and Lachlan Mous with continued improvement.

Well done boys.
