Sapphires have one goal in mind

10/Under

The Douglas Junior Netball competition started last Tuesday with the 10/Under Pythons playing the Gladiators. Both teams came out fighting with looks of fierce determination in their eyes.

Pythons' centre Tayhla Catienta was everywhere showing her versatility on the court and Libby Buzza in GK defended brilliantly.  The second quarter saw the Gladiators storm into the game with Jenna Kerswell showing great skill all over the court.

The second half was fast and furious with Gladiators' Keeley Poole and Heidi Pashen all over the ball, but the Pythons' Charlotte Dowling on a shooting streak kept the team up on goals, fantastic game girls!

Final score Pythons 6 def. Gladiators 0.

On Court 2 the Wildcatz played the Net Set Go girls. The teams combined to play evenly matched teams in order to teach the newcomers to the game.

Jay Heidke was strong moving the ball down the court and Jordan Scott fantastic in her favoured centre position.  Jasmine Dodds also played well in attack.

The Net Set Go players demonstrated improved skills thanks to the older girls. Michaela Nesbitt's strength allowed her to make several great shooting attempts, Grace Richardson made some brilliant intercepts and passes as GK, and Edie Thurtell played a number of court positions and moved well towards some open court to receive solid passes.

Thanks to the Wildcatz for supporting the Nettas, you do your coach proud.

12/Under

The 12/Under competition on Court 1 saw the Diamonds play the Poison Apples, and the Diamonds sparkled from the first quarter leading 6 goals to 3 by half time.

Piper Adams was excellent in the goal circle and Jasmine Kirk pivotal in moving the ball towards goal.  The Poison Apples, with great plays by Ella Dodds, Denby Woods and the irrepressible Tiah
McLean played some great netball but not strong enough to overcome the Diamonds.

Final score Diamonds 9 def. Apples 5.

The Red Hot Peppers play the Miallo Allstars and all game the girls from each team fought hard for possession of the ball with great umpiring from the 14/Under girls and with Coral Deen's guidance the game kept a fast pace.

Natayah from the Peppers was steaming hot and Anndria Santa Cruz from Miallo Allstars continued to excel in all positions to help the Allstars score a 10 nil lead.

14-16/Under

The 14-16/Under Competition on Court 1 had the Fusion playing the 12/Under Reps, and both teams played well the Reps coming out firing ending the first half only 1 goal down.

Piper Adams for the Reps shot well for goal and made space in the goal circle to receive the ball, while Cartier Bennett and Bonnie Francis put in great defensive games.

The Fusion picked up their pace in the second half minus one of their older players and had to dig deep to take the win. Mikaela Goodwin was good in defence and Elle Kadwell was ever reliable making space and leading well for the ball.

Final score Fusion 26 def. Reps 16.

The Vipers and the Breakers and the Vipers who took a while to settle into the game with a lot of giggling going on, but picked up their act with Saisha Schonenberger intercepting well and Jade Schuck shooting accurately and energetic in attack. Tayler Durie was very effective in WA and Centre.

The Breakers, with a welcome back to Lucy Webster, played well as did Tyler Mous with great intercepting and Georgia Duncan put in yet another excellent game as GK. It was great to have Jess Viola return to the team, she played well shooting some great goals.

Final score Vipers 17 def. Breakers 2.

The Dynamite played the Sapphires on Court 3. Dynamite took a while to get started shooting 4 goals to 10 by half time. Megan Von Keyserlingk in goal defence intercepted very well and stuck to her player along with Simone Pringle who leapt well to gain intercepts.

The Sapphires played very good netball with some great passing and positioning on the court. Brittany Bowen was a standout in the first quarter and a welcome back to Frankie Webster from New Zealand re-joining Douglas Netball after a break.

In the third quarter Dynamite shot 9 goals to 2 making a strong comeback but could not get the win.

Final score Sapphires 16 def. Dynamite 15.
