Art for marketing's sake

Sponsorship funds in addition to marketing expertise from Daintree Marketing Co-operative (DMC) have enabled community art group, Douglas Arts Base (DAB), to create an art prize specifically designed to promote the Daintree.

DAB President Alison Gotts said she was delighted to be working with DMC and believes the skills of the two organisations were complementary.

“By collaborating, we’ve been able to create this wonderful initiative that brings together marketing, art, and the Daintree. It’s a winning formula,” she said.

Alison is confident they’ll attract up to 200 entries.

“The $2,000 main prize is a fantastic incentive to motivate people to express on canvas what the Daintree means to them,” she said.

While most entries are expected to come from people based in this region, there are plans to promote the competition throughout Australia.

Alison said many visitors take wonderful photos which capture the essence of the Daintree.

“Here is a chance for them to be selected for an exhibition, and to be in the running for one of six prizes.”

There are five different categories, as well as the overall Destination Daintree Art Prize of $2,000 provided by the Daintree Marketing Cooperative (DMC).

Entries in the Destination Daintree Art Prize 2012 are now open and will close on 5 October 2012.

The winners will be announced at the Destination Daintree Art Exhibition being held at the Sugar Wharf on 23 November 2012.
