Grab the popcorn, get the girls together and indulge in a little romantic comedy with JUTE Theatre Company.

Hot on the heels of the company’s season opener At Sea, Staring Up, the 20th year celebrations of the only professional theatre company in north Queensland, continue with the romantic comedy Intimacy by Cairns playwright, Tony Robertson.

Playing from June 8 to 23, if you love old romantics classics, than this latest production, according to JUTE’s artistic director Suellen Maunder, will have you coming back for more.

Drawing parallels from movies such as Failure to Launch, When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail, Tony has managed to weave together a charmingly humorous story that will make the audience feel like they are falling in love again for the first time.

Directed by NIDA trained and television veteran Andrea Moor, the story revolves around Errol, who is single, living with his mother and working as a part time spruiker. He is looking for love in all the wrong places and even tries speed dating to find the woman of his dreams. Alison is Errol’s mum and she still holds out hope that Errol will fill his father’s shoes. Then there is Melody, a “clothes whisperer” who works at Lowes.

The cast features the very experienced and well-known local actor Susan Prince in the role of Alison. Susan is also one of the three founding members of JUTE. The role of Errol is played by Anthony Ring with Peta Cooke portraying Melody’s quirky and sweet natured character to a tee.

Suellen says Intimacy promises to be a great night out with three very funny and endearing characters. “Errol is a bit of a loser, but then Melody literally walks into his life and everything changes,” she explains. “Of course like all the best romantic comedies, there is an obstacle, a misunderstanding and the question, will these two get together again and how? Errol's mum Alison also becomes more and more forgetful adding to the comedy. These are three very sweet, funny characters and you can't help warming to them."

Intimacy will open on June 8 and will run until June 23. Tickets are on sale now through the JUTE box office and are priced between $18 and $30. If you are a charity, sporting or social group, JUTE Theatre Company is once again offering the chance to host a fundraising night out at the theatre as part of JUTE’s commitment to this community. Simply organise a group of 30 or more people and JUTE Theatre Company will give you half the standard ticket price back ($15 per ticket).

Fundraising groups then on sell the tickets to their contacts at the standard JUTE adult ticketing cost of $30 each, therefore raising $450 ($15 per ticket x 30 = $450). The theatre fundraising nights proved popular in 2011 with over $3500 raised for local fundraising and charity groups.
