The competition this week was shot under clear skies, a light variable breeze with occasional mirage. What looked like idyllic condition soon proved to be problematic with the breeze shifting from south to south east and back making the centre-bull and consistency a difficult achievement for the Target rifle and F-Class shooters.

The generally low scores for the day were also compounded by the more difficult 300 metres range target with its small 0.8 minute of angle centre-bull target.

To the uninitiated, one minute of angle is one inch at 100 yards, two inches at 200 yards etc. and the 300 metre target has proportionally the smallest centre bull of any target.

In Stage 1, first to shoot was Neil Atwood whom started strongly but then dropped a string of twos and threes to finish with a disappointing 32.0/50.

Next Robert Wearne started well but then dropped a string of 4 pointers to finish with 45.0/50 to still win first stage of target rifle.

In a field of one F-Class Standard shooter Norbett Schmidt dropped five points to finish with a credible 55/60.

In Stage 2, Atwood improved his percentages but was still disappointed with 44.2/55 to finish with 76.2/105. Wearne lifted his performance only dropping two points to win the stage with 53.2/55 and the days’ competition with 98.2/105.

At the finish of the day Schmidt dropped a number of 4 and 5 pointers early in the stage until he found consistency to finish the stage with 58/66 and the competition with 112/126.
