What an exhibition!
If you were thinking February was a bumper month in the Best Photo Competition, you were right.
The gallery of photos entered by photographers as part of the competition was viewed by over 1200 people, and they came back again meaning 2500 visits were made to look at the photos in February.
To put this in perspective, our photographers held an exhibition of their photos in which 1200 people walked through the door. Not only that, they loved it so much they came back for more. You've got to love repeat business!
So down to business.
First prize in the Best Photo Competition for February went to Joel Van Kalken for his incredible 'Giant Crab' pic which took us eye-to-eye with the crab in fantastic detail.
Joel has earned himself a $100 gift voucher courtesy of Garricks Camera House, and they've thrown in $50 cash as well. Well done Joel.
Second prize went to Richard Hopper for his ominous 'Stormy skies.' This is one of those photos you can look at over and over and always pick up something new.
Richard always delivers amazing photos, and this particular photo will be given the respect it deserves after being turned into a beautiful stretch canvas valued at $75 thanks to Perrin Clarke at Imagebank Australia.
Third prize goes to Lana Gardner who can trade her 'Espresso Martini' for a lovely bottle of wine.
Lana also polled very well in the Most Popular Photo category, but not well enough to catch Patricia Andrews' 'Flowering wonder' which took 24% of the 313 votes received.
Thanks to the support for Patricia's photo she has won an underwater camera courtesy of Jason and his team at Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.
Thanks also go to the expert judges, Perrin Clarke from Imagebank Australia, and Alison George from Catseye Productions.
Well done to everyone involved in February's competition. We're already getting inundated with pics for March so get yours in.
The Best Photo Competition is more than just a competition, it showcases our region through your lenses and creates the best gallery of photos of Far North Queensland, well, anywhere I'd say.
Winners can contact Mathew at The Newsport on 4099 5122 to arrange the collection of their prize.
