Footy fever took over Mossman recently as Northern Pride players spent time with the students through the Pride’s innovative Take Pride Program.

The annual four-week Schools Blitz sees Pride players visit more than 120 schools and 40,000 students in Far North Queensland, stretching from Ingham in the south, west to Mount Garnet and Chillagoe, and north to Alexandria Bay in the Daintree.

Chey Bird thrilled Mossman students with his visit, promoting junior rugby league, but more importantly spreading important health and behaviour messages.

“The players are holding rugby league clinics, but they are also highlighting other important everyday activities for children, such as good nutrition, physical activity, reading programs and school attendance,” said Northern Pride Chief Executive Officer Chris Sheppard.

“It was a real thrill for the Mossman kids to meet the players who love visiting the schools and putting some smiles on faces, as well as delivering important messages.

“It was a great day for everyone involved and we thank Mossman teachers, staff, parents and children for their participation.”

The school visits are held each year in partnership with Queensland Rugby League and Australian Rugby League Development.

“We pride ourselves on promoting junior participation in rugby league in the region,” said Mr Sheppard.

“It would be great for more FNQ families and children to get involved with their local club.”
