The Port Douglas Junior Football Club has been awarded a $500 grant through the State Government's 'Positive or It’s Pointless' funding pool.
The grant will be used for much needed equipment which was awarded because of the club's positive message reinforcement.
“This is a wonderful organisation which fosters a love for sport in a positive environment," State Member for Cook, Jason O'Brien said.
“At the end of the day, sport should be fun for all involved, and children should be able to kick a ball around and enjoy their soccer free from negative behaviour.
“I commend the club for signing up to the Positive or It’s Pointless campaign, which is all about blowing the whistle on poor player and spectator behaviour at junior matches."
Mr O'Brien, a rugby referee himself, hopes that the message will make his time on the field that much easier.
“By building a positive culture at all junior clubs, the campaign hopes to replace negative features such as player violence, abuse of referees and the ‘ugly parent’."
