Action stations for Crocs

by Andy Smith
President, Port Douglas Crocs

Well as 2011 comes to a close our new committee is up and running in preparation for 2012.

The new committee comprises of Rob Barnett (vice president), Robyn Frahn (Secretary), John Cameron (Treasurer) and Darren Wall, while Scotty from IGA, Scott Ewert, and Jim Buckley make up the general committee.

All in all there is approximately 40 years of experience as Crocs committee persons.

Our first job was to hold a meeting with all the players aged under 21 and commence a training program to fast-track them over the next four months in skills and strength training.

This is the first time we have had so many home grown youngsters available at senior level. Their training will be overseen by Jim Buckley and assisted by senior players.

Preseason training is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5pm, and 22 players attended the first night.

In saying that, we have lost around 20 players and our match committee are working hard recruiting to top up and assist our young guns.

Possibly the most important job at the club is the Football Operations Manager, and we have appointed Jim Buckley to this position. He will be responsible for the day to day running of the football side of things. We are very lucky to have a person of the calibre of Jim at our club.

In 2012 we intend to push our sponsors' barrow and repay their faith in our club. Every Friday night the Goose Club will be at our major sponsor's venue - The Court House Hotel, from 5.30pm. Come down for a hour and let Jason know you support the Crocs.

If you would like to go on the roster for the Goose Club phone Rob Barnett 0407 327 964.

If you wish to speak to me regarding prospective sponsorship or ideas to improve the club I would love to hear from you.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Croc Pit in 2012.
