Golfers travel far and wide
There were mixed results in the men’s first round of pennants as the boys travelled to Atherton on Sunday to take on the Southern Districts side.
The C Graders got off to a good start winning 3 matches to 2, while both the A and B Grade’s came up just short going down 2 matches to 3. This week the men head to Cairns to play against Gordonvale.
Also over the weekend Shane Heath, Bill Heath, Lyn Heimann and Gennai Goodwin travelled to Townsville to compete in the Holden Scramble regional Final.
The team was joined by Gold Coast Pro, Josh Madden, and managed to shoot 14 under par around Rowes Bay Golf Course netting 55.6 to finish in sixth place and 1.7 shots behind the winners.
Earlier last week the Tuesday men played the Monthly Medal for October. Ken Deuble sealed the win with a nett 69 after a count back to Geoff Parmenter. Rick Herschell won nearest the pin on 6, Laurie Prosser on 8, Michael Gabour on 10, Ken Deuble on 13 and Kym Rowley on 17.
A small field contested the Wednesday sporters competition but there was still plenty of high scores.
Peter Titus-Rees won with 24 points after a count back to Shona Barbour. Barry Costain was third with 23 points and Lucy Giles won the nearest the pin on 13.
The Thursday ladies also played their Monthly Medal for October which was won by Jane Chidgey with nett 68 ahead of Lucy Giles who finished in second place with nett 69. Lucy also won nearest the pins on 6 and 8, Shona Barbour won 13 and Trish Landy won 17.
Bill Everingham scored 41 points on Saturday to win the men’s Stableford competition ahead of David Budge on 40 points and Peter Santarossa finished third with 38 points. Nearest the pins were Mal Phillips on 6, Ian Prewett on 8 and 17, Norm Lockwood on 10 and Ian McDowall on 13.
Leonnie Phillips lead the way in the ladies Saturday competition with 36 points winning ahead of Patti Graham on 35 points. Pris Freeman won nearest the pin on 8 and Trish Landy won 13.
