No Tiger but arrivals up
Tiger Airways is slowly resuming flights to its network of domestic destinations after being grounded by CASA for safety breaches.
The embattled airline recommenced its services between Melbourne and the Gold Coast on Friday, but have yet to announce when its Melbourne to Cairns route will resume.
Meanwhile, the latest Cairns Airport figures show a rise in the number of arrivals to the region.
In July, 157,874 passengers disembarked in Cairns up from 152,326 in 2010, and international arrivals were also marginally higher with 32,290 passengers, up from 32,039 in 2010.
Tara Bennett from Tourism Port Douglas Daintree said that while the town is seemingly enjoying a busier than usual high season, figures from Tourism Research Australia covering the April to June quarter will not be available until October.
