Police bites

A one metre high bollard light was reported stolen from a resort on Davidson Street, Port Douglas, taken overnight between August 11 and 12.

Port Douglas Police say the thief would have had some knowledge of electrics, as the bollard light, located within the property, was hardwired into mains power.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Port Douglas Police.

A 30-year-old Italian tourist has been charged with failing to give way after a two-vehicle accident occurred last Thursday at the intersection of Port and Davidson streets.


Port Douglas Police say the accident occurred at midday at the notorious intersection outside the Portsea resort, as the international tourist misread the speed of an oncoming vehicle traveling down Davidson Street as he attempted to turn right out of Port Street.

A 40-year-old Mossman man was charged with a notice to appear at Mossman Court on September 7 for being a public nuisance.

Police say the man was shouting obscenities outside the Port Douglas Police Station at 10.50pm on Thursday, 18th August, and was arrested shortly afterward.

A 44-year-old man from the ACT was charged with drink driving after he blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.072 at 10.50pm last Friday night after being intercepted on Port Douglas Road.

He will appear in Mossman Courthouse on September 14.

A 21-year-old French man will appear at Mossman Courthouse on September 7 after being charged with trespass at a local backpackers resort.

Police allege the man was asked to leave the resort repeatedly over the weekend and refused to do so.
