Mossman Hospital receives cancer grant

Cancer Council Queensland has launched Daffodil Day with afternoon tea at Mossman Hospital, to announce the local recipient of the 2011 Community Grants Program.

The Community Grant Program was launched earlier this year to celebrate Cancer Council Queensland’s 50th Anniversary to enable eligible organisations to apply for funding to improve the comfort and quality of life for cancer patients.

Mossman Hospital is the local recipient of the Cancer Council Queensland Community Grants Program. Volunteers from the Mossman Port Douglas Branch of Cancer Council Queensland joined in the celebrations.

Regional Fundraising Co-ordinator at Cancer Council Queensland, Lynsie James, said the Daffodil Day launch was be a great morning of community involvement.

“We were honoured to present the Mossman Hospital with their Community Grant for the purchase of two pressure relieving mattresses and two electric beds at the launch,” she said.

“The Community Grants Program really is a great example of how funds raised by volunteers on Daffodil Day are used by Cancer Council Queensland to help those in our community who have been affected by cancer,” she said.

“Daffodil Day will be held nationally on Friday August 26 and I encourage all Queenslanders to show their support for the campaign by purchasing a daffodil for the one in two of us who will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85.”

Other grant recipients within the region included Gordonvale Memorial Hospital and Palliative Care Unit which received $12,700 for the purchase of one pressure relieving mattress and 10 pressure relieving cushions, and Cassowary Coast Blue Care which received $4595 for the purchase of a pressure relieving mattresses and an electric reclining chair.
