by Treveen Page

Round 14 of Douglas Junior Netball was played on Tuesday in very cool conditions at Port courts.

10/Under

The 10/Under competition on Court 1 had the Diamonds playing the Saints, and the Diamonds played with tenacity against the much improved Saints. Dominique Lee displayed great pivoting and passing, while Kalani Revel was confident with her intercepts, and Hayley Barnes showed some very accurate passing complimented by Hannah Durie playing the ball well through the centre.

For the Saints, Myah Lowenstein-Jones and Kiara-Mae Gaddes combined well over the court setting up plays, and Kate Padovan put in an excellent defensive game while Jay Heidke showed some very good overhead passing.

We welcome new starter for the Saints, Paige Bellero, who played a great first game. Thanks to Meg Goodall and Hazuki Kirby for umpiring.

Final score nil all draw.

The Tigers played the Gladiators on Court 2 and the Tigers were down a couple of players so thanks to Jade Reed and Georgia Kelly for making up the numbers.

Libby Buzza showed some sharp passing and Tara Smith who was up against a much taller opponent put in a great game as shooter while Carla Young rebounded well as keeper.

The Gladiators were in fine form. Jaslyn Chesterfield positioned herself well over the court in an excellent game. Sophee Watson was strong through centre and Allie Siebel shot well for goal.

Thanks to Grace Walker and Kahlee Tesch for umpiring.

Final score Gladiators 5 def. Tigers nil.

12/Under

The 12/Under competition started on Court 1 with Miallo playing the Allstars, and it's always a closely contested match between these two teams.

Elle Kadwell for Miallo displayed some very nice shooting with strong defence by Georgia Duncan and fantastic use of the circle with Maddy Malone, Jade Schuck and Ellie Kadwell.

The Miallo team were 3 goals to 1 at half time, but the Allstars shot 3 to 2 in the next quarter.  For the Allstars, Eliza Markham used the circle well and her shooting improves each week.

Liana Pelegrinet made space over the court and worked well with Rachael Goodwin in the goal circle while Mikeala Goodwin was again great in defence.

Thanks to Alfina Tolentini and Rochelle Miller for umpiring.

Final score saw Miallo win by a goal. Miallo 8 def. Allstars 7.

The Panthers played Magic on Court 2 and coach Angela Pringle directed her team with gusto as Savaanah Scott showed some very nice passing and great positioning over the court.

Jade Reed shot a brilliant goal from quite a distance as did Bonnie Francis, and Ellie McKay played well against much taller opposition. Tully Case is consistent in defence each week.

The team is having alot of fun especially with their very enthusiastic war cry!

The Magic team, who were down a number of players, put in a top performance with thanks to Sophie O'Gorman-Petrack, Amelia Lee, Jasmine and Sophie Kirk for making up the numbers.

The team displayed some very nice, slick plays down the court finished by some accurate shooting by Mia Brennan.

Thanks for Sharon Beechey and Laura Berney for umpiring.

Final score Magic 15 def. Panthers 4.

Court 3 saw the Sparks play the Crocs, with the Sparks improving each week.

Tiah McLean made use of every opportunity she had with the ball, Elkie Burnett displayed great timing, nice plays by Sascha Lowenstein-Jones, and fantastic defence from Ella Dodds saw the team get a couple of goals on the score board. Thanks to Keeley Harold for playing up from 10s.

The Crocs are playing well as a team and Nicky Samson chipped in with a number of intercepts. Lauren Radcliffe shot consistently for goal, Phoenix Scott-Spackman worked the ball well in attack, and leading by Courtney
Sophocleous saw the Crocs come away with the win.

Thanks to Chrissy Sophocleous and Jane Gwilliams for umpiring.

14/Under

The 14/Under competition on Court 1 began with the Judamalies playing the 12/Under Rep. team. For the Judamalies Dakota Bowen and Frankie Webster put in a fantastic defensive game, whie Natalie Littler, who coaches and plays for the Judamalies, was excellent in centre. Thanks to Sascha Lowenstein-Jones
for playing up from 12/Under.

The 12/Under Rep team put in a brilliant game, especially Maddy Malone who was up against Natalie Littler who had a distinct size advantage. Maddy played with style, and there was great shooting by Bonnie Francis, one of the younger rep players.

Overall the teams played some very fast and disciplined netball. Thanks to Rochelle Miller and Rachael for umpiring.

Final score 12/U Reps 9 def. Judamalies 5.

This week we were down on a number of umpires so coaches took on both roles. It would be great if we could get some more parent participation instead of just spectators with the older teams.

The Dynamite played the Vipers on Court 2, and Dynamite, without coach Cassandra Hill for the night, put in a stellar effort. Emma and Yasmine Stievano combined well over the court to drive the ball towards their goal, and Megan
Von-Keyserlink put in a fantastic defensive game, with very nice passing and fast play by Dynamite as a team.

The Vipers, directed by Jess Eagle-Rowe, played well and Molly Delaney back from illness put in a great centre game. Jess Eagle-Rowe defended well against Dynamite's Marley Cairns and Akasha Francis lead
well through the centre third.

Thanks to Alfina Tolentini and Jane Gwilliams for umpiring and to Eleisha Mealing and Brydie Tregea for playing with the Vipers to make up the numbers.

Final score Vipers 7 def. Dynamite 5.
