Favourites triumph at Mossman Open
We couldn’t have asked for much more over the weekend with stellar conditions and a record field for the “Quicksilver” Mossman Open. One hundred and sixty-eight players from throughout FNQ contested the event which grows in stature each year.
Tournament favourites and local club champions Peter Chrisfield and Gennai Goodwin again dominated the event winning the men’s and ladies gross respectively.
Gennai Goodwin also picked the overall nett for the weekend with 139 but her main highlight came on Sunday on the par 3 17th where she scored her first Hole-in-One.
Olivia Crispin won Division One gross for the ladies with 163 and Glenda Christensen was second with 176. C. Atkinson won the nett with 139 and A. Crispin was second with 142.
In Division Two Sharron Dowd took out the gross with 192 ahead of Deb Westerman on 193. Lyn Heimann added to her trophy cabinet winning the nett with 141 ahead of Choo Lim on 142. Pam Shay won the Senior nett with 142 ahead of Kerri Williams on 145.
In the men’s open, Peter Chrisfield won the overall gross after rounds of 71 and 73. Shane Heath finished second just one shot back after rounds of 71 and 74. Up and coming junior Gareth Senia was a shot further back with rounds of 75 and 71 but took out the overall nett with 132.
Clinton Bowden won the A grade nett with 137 ahead of Charlie Kadic on 141.
In B Grade Joe Hutchinson held on for the narrow win with 168 ahead of N Joseph on 169. Russell Jeffrey won the B Grade nett with 140 with Les Minotti a shot further back on 141.
Wayne Baxter fought back with a brilliant round on Sunday to win the C Grade gross with 179 ahead of M. Morgan on 180. Russell Hooker won C Grade nett with 140 and G. Scott was second with 142.
The senior nett went to Ian Prewett with 141 ahead of Bruce Cheesman on 142.
Earlier in the week Steve Warden and Peter Lewis joined forces to win the men’s Tuesday 4 Ball Best Ball with 50 points. Mal Phillips won nearest the pin on 6, Bruce Cheesman on 8, Matty Coombe on 10, Wayne Dowell on 13 and James Browne on 17.
The Thursday ladies played a 4 Ball Best Ball Aggregate last week which was won by Lyn Heimann and Shona Barbour on 73 points. Lucy Giles and Kerri Williams were next best with 70 points. Nearest the pins went to Kate Brims on 10, Shona Barbour on 13 and Trish Landy on 17.
This Sunday the men and ladies will contest the 27 holes foursome’s championships.
