Fighting for Top Spot in Senior netball

This week all teams were playing to gain or maintain a spot in the top four, and all teams came out fighting.

In one of the most physical games we have seen all year the fifth placed Julatten Jewels took on the third placed Young Guns. From the blow of the first whistle both teams came out firing hoping for a win. By half time the Jewels were down by two goals but managed to fight back and hold a one goal lead by the end of the third quarter.

The very fast paced game also saw many lost opportunities from both teams with the game consisting of many turnovers. In the final quarter all the players gave it everything they had and it resulted in a score of 31 all. Rochelle Miller, Young Guns shooter was awarded the games best and fairest along with Jewels defender Erin Jeffery. The even result has secured the Guns spot in the top four however it wasn’t enough for the Julatten Jewels. The Jewels will now play to win the A-reserve division.

The second place Rattle N Hum have also secured there top four position in a win over the Sugarland Shooters. The Rattle team put on a great display of skill and proved why they aren’t far from the top. The game didn’t start so well for the Shooters side however only managed to lose the second quarter by two goals. Rattles defence was simply too good and the Shooters were unable to convert. The final score was 46 – 14 with Rattles shooter Aimee Watson and Shooters centre, Lucy Deuble being rewarded best and fairest.

Blood Orange also had an outstanding game this week with a 30 – 14 win over the Crocs. They dominated every quarter of the game and have held their fourth placed position to stay in the A division. Blood Orange defence player Kirsty McKay was once again awarded the best and fairest player award for her excellent efforts. Crocs wing defence, Kate Cooper, also had a great game in the mid court and was also awarded best and fairest.

In B grade the top two teams went head to head in another great game of netball. The first quarter produced a four all draw but the U-14 Rep Team came through to show the Jets they need to work harder to maintain their top position. The Rep Team took the game 17 – 14 by the end of the game.

In the second B grade game the fourth placed Bad Habitat scored two goals for every one of the Breaker goals. The game started of close but the Habitats just kept gaining on the young Breakers side. Breakers shooter, Erin Davey, was awarded the games best and fairest along with Habitats shooter, Chrissie Reushle.

Central Cougars won to the Pink Panther by forfeit.

A grade has now split into two divisions with the top four teams making first division and the bottom four also getting a chance of winning a premiership. The first division includes the Central Cougars, Rattle N Hum, Young Guns and Blood Orange.

The second division consisting of Julatten Jewels, Crocs, Sugarland Shooters and Pink Panthers.
